Industrial plastic containers: types and uses

Big Box, IBC, crates, drums and pallets. We explain which type of plastic container suits each product and volume, with sizes and capacities, so you choose the right container without getting it wrong.

What is an industrial plastic container?

An industrial plastic container is a reusable receptacle made from polyethylene (HDPE) or polypropylene, designed to store and transport bulk product in agricultural, food, logistics and industrial settings. Unlike cardboard or wood, it withstands moisture, washing and dozens of use cycles.

The term "plastic container" covers very different formats: from the 1200 × 1000 mm Big Box to the 1000-litre IBC, as well as crates, drums and pallets, each designed for a particular type of load. Choosing the right plastic container is, above all, a matter of what you are going to move and in what quantity.

Hygiene and traceability

A plastic container can be washed and disinfected without splintering or absorbing; in food-grade HDPE it complies with food contact regulations.

Returnable and durable

A plastic container withstands dozens of cycles compared with single-use cardboard or wood, and falls outside the plastic tax.

No phytosanitary treatment required

Unlike wood, plastic does not require ISPM-15 treatment for export, which simplifies international trade.
